17 June 2009: Wildflowers in Big BearThe wildflowers are really starting to pick up here at 7000 feet, and two of my favorite trails to hike and photograph them are the Grout Bay Trail, and the Snow Forest Trail. Grout Bay Trail can either be started on Highway 38 at the Picnic area, or at the Hanna Flats Campground. I would expect you to see Mountain Lupine, Indian Paintbrush, Shooting Stars, Beardtongue, and Columbine. The Snow Forest Trail is a little harder to find, and will peak in early July because that area faces north. You can basically hike around the old Snow Forest ski area, just south of the village. For more detailed directions, contact me. In that area, you should see Lupine, Paintbrush, Shooting Stars, Corn Lily, and Lemon Lilies like the one pictured here. ____________________ |

3 September 2008:Thanks for another successful 'Meet the Artists' this past weekend at United Wood Craftsmen. Of course, anytime you would like to meet, just contact us. We can meet at UWC, or at our combination Yoga Studio / Gallery located next to the Eastside Coffee and Book store at 409 Big Bear Boulevard in Bear City. For more information about Yoga, check out the website. We are currently creating some artists cards of our most popular and favorite images. These will be nice enough to frame, but also useful as note or greeting cards. I'll put up a sample when they are finished. On a lighter note, I find myself on the other side of the camera for a refreshing change. A while back, Bike magazine came to Big Bear and my friend asked me to ride with him and the guys for the article. When it published, the only recognizable picture of me was at the bar swilling a brew. I guess they discovered my true talent. My friend just called and said they used one of the article's photos for the 2009 calendar, and we are June! Although larger, I'm still pretty much unrecognizable, but at least there is a credit now. ____________________

16 July 2008: Paddlefest RecapWhat a fantastic Paddlefest event we had last weekend. Great classes on Saturday (taught by yours truly), an awesome slideshow Saturday night, and a fun race on Sunday. Speaking of slideshows, the Paddlefest was the impetus to digitize our Baikal slides, and now the slideshow page has been updated with a teaser. We just confirmed that we will be doing two Monrovia Art Walks:
These will be along the 500 & 600 blocks of East Myrtle Ave. For more information, please contact us or check out www.monroviafinearts.org.

21 June 2008: Art Walk 2008Sequoia was a huge success. Not only were the dogwoods blooming, but the fog rolled in one day to make for some incredible images. Check the gallery soon for some much needed additions. The Pine Knot Village Art Walk will be held on July 5th and 6th 2008 here in Big Bear. Hours will be 10-6 on Saturday, 10-4 on Sunday. We will have a booth on Pine Knot in front of United Wood Craftsman. From the press release: "The Pink Knot Village Art Walk is a celebration of and for working artists who sell their fine art, as well as an expression of support for the fine arts and artists by our Mountain Community." This is the 5th annual. For more information, check out the Mountain & Desert Arts Association. Come on by, check out the great fireworks display over Big Bear Lake, and see the new images. Contact us if you have any questions. ___________________

2 June 2008: Photo shoot - Sequoia!I'm off to Sequoia National Park for a few days to photograph the giant trees with (hopefully) the dogwood trees blooming. This will put me even further behind in web gallery updates, but opportunities like this can not be put off. ____________________

28 May 2008: Meet the ArtistsWe had a very successful Saturday at United Wood Craftsman gallery. Thanks to everyone who stopped by, it was nice chatting with you. There was a great positive response to my latest prints, and I need to upload them to the gallery. I'm currently considering changing the gallery software to something flash based, a little flashier. I've found some nice packages, and used one to make the slideshows. As soon as I have time, I'll pick something and update everything in the gallery. It's spring cleaning time and after our lackluster garage sale performance, I'm going to ebay some photography equipment. It's impossible to sell nice gear at a garage sale. I hope to finance the purchase of a new body. The rebates going on right now are hard to pass up. As usual, it's the old buy now or wait a while for the latest argument. For Sale:
Please contact me for info, or an ebay link. ____________________

17 May 2008: Back in Big BearThe waterfall was absolutely amazing, I'm processing photos and will be adding to the gallery soon. Also, the Rhododendron was blooming, and we managed to get some nice shots. I've updated the slide presentations page with better descriptions, and will soon be adding some flash examples. Update: Added three flash examples. The first flash slideshow will be the PCT, as I am preparing to do a presentation for the Sierra Club on Tuesday, May 20, at the Discovery Center. Contact me for info. Also, the United Wood Craftsman gallery, where we display our work, is having a 'meet the artists' day on Saturday, May 24. Stop on by to chat. I will be showing some photos from the last shoot, and also some from our Kamchatka expedition. I will have a table setup where I'll do some framing. ____________________

2 May 2008: Back from the USSR (with apologies to the Beatles)We are back home after a very successful trip. To read a little about the trip, check out Cathleen's blog: Airstream Nomad. It was so much fun keeping the blog, that I considered creating one myself. But, since I already have this website, I will use this news page as it is intended: an update on Summit Photography, announcements of new trips or photo shoots, gear discussions, an assortment of my brain dumps... In the near future I will be posting some thoughts and experiences about our recent trip. Look for updates a few times a week. ____________________
